Dr. Nyangon Highlights Clean Energy Opportunities at Global American Business Institute Forum
On July 26, Dr. Nyangon was invited to speak at the Global American Business Institute’s (GABI) Clean Energy Forum and Seminars in Washington, DC. His presentation, Challenges and Opportunities for Community Solar Energy Models: Policy Implications Derived from the U.S. Experience, explored how community solar can expand access to clean, affordable energy while navigating complex technical, regulatory, and utility-related challenges.
Community solar projects allow multiple users to share the benefits of a single solar installation, offering tailored solutions to meet local energy needs. However, the model faces hurdles such as inconsistent regulatory standards, unclear crediting mechanisms, transaction costs, and limitations in dense urban areas. Central to the discussion is the evolving role of utilities, whether as facilitators or direct controllers, and how communities negotiate with energy producers.
Headquartered in Washington, DC, GABI brings together governments, industry, academia, think tanks, NGOs, and research institutes to advance knowledge on zero-carbon technologies, including renewables, hydrogen, and nuclear energy. GABI’s mission is to foster global awareness and collaboration on international energy policy issues through research, publications, and forums.
Dr. Nyangon’s participation underscored the importance of collaborative approaches to energy transition and highlighted practical lessons from the U.S. experience that can inform global community solar initiatives.
