Dr. Nyangon Joins Delaware Senate Panel on Advancing Renewable Energy Through SB 250

Dr. Nyangon was invited to serve as a panelist at the Delaware State Assembly Senate Bill (SB) 250 Stakeholder’s Meeting, held at Delaware Technical Community College’s Wilmington Campus. The meeting convened policymakers, advocates, and experts to examine the benefits of passing SB 250, a landmark piece of legislation designed to advance Delaware’s renewable and sustainable energy future.

Introduced on June 10, 2020, SB 250 is sponsored by Senator McDowell, with additional sponsorship from Senator Townsend and Representatives Osienski, Griffith, Heffernan, and Seigfried, alongside a broad bipartisan group of co-sponsors. The bill proposes increasing Delaware’s Renewable Portfolio Standard (RPS) to 40% by 2035, significantly strengthening the state’s commitment to clean and renewable energy.

During the panel discussion, Dr. Nyangon highlighted the economic, environmental, and community-wide benefits of the legislation, emphasizing its role in restoring Delaware’s leadership in renewable energy. SB 250 builds upon the Renewable Energy Portfolio Standards Act of 2005 by establishing higher minimum thresholds for electricity generated from eligible renewable resources and solar photovoltaics.

Additionally, the bill introduces the Community Sustainable Energy Authorities Act, empowering municipalities, counties, and the Delaware Sustainable Energy Utility to develop and operate community-based sustainable energy projects. Dr. Nyangon underscored how these provisions can drive local innovation, expand energy access, and foster long-term sustainability across Delaware.
